Where are you located?

We are conveniently located in Largent WV, right behind Stoney Creek Country Store. Which is between Paw Paw WV and Great Cacapon WV. We are about 30 mins from Berkley Springs, WV, and about a 2 hour drive from DC or Baltimore. Best address to use is 14 Stoney Creek Rd Great Cacapon WV 25422. Please consider downloading GPS maps, as cell phone coverage is spotty in the mountains (last 30 minutes of your drive). Customers with Apple products may want to make sure the destination is right next to Stoney Creek Country Store (iPhone users had most trouble finding us)

How is Cacapon River Outfitters different?

We are on the cleanest river on the east coast. There is no industry and very little population in the heavily forested river valley. We offer beginner friendly trips with tubes, kayaks and canoes, with very small rapids on the bends. You group only shuttles upstream once to the put in. Your vehicle waits for you at our location by Stoney Creek Country Store. You can get food, milkshake, ice cream, or ice before or after the trip (but please check store hours). We also have a pavilion where your group members can play or watch ping-pong while you wait for shuttle or upon return from your trip. Lastly, we provider a cooler carrier for your group at no charge.

How deep is the river on the stretch you do?

River depth will vary throughout your 2.5-mile trip from about a foot to about 4 to 5 feet, with two or three spots where water can be as deep as 6 feet.

Can we bring food? Do you sell ice? Can we bring drinks?

There are no restrictions on what you can bring. We discourage glass bottles so that nobody gets injured with broken glass. You can get ice and popular adult and other beverages at Stoney Creek Country Store. The store also makes subs/sandwiches/pizza and other hot food. What should I bring?

Water shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses you don’t mind losing, plenty of water (especially on tube trips). Cooler 50qt or under capacity for tube trips.

Tubes do come with cupholders, that can hold a can sized beverage in a koozie   

 

 

 

For kayak trips, bring a water bottle or a small cooler bag (non-rigid) that you can fit between your legs. Heron 9 kayaks are limited on space.

Should we book online? Do you accept Walk-ins?

We strongly encourage you to book online ahead of time, at least a few days prior to your booking, and longer for larger groups. Your desired slot may run out of allowed bookings, or we could be sold out all together for the day or weekend. Walk-ins would likely end up waiting for an hour+ depending on how full our schedule is.

Weight limits?

Our kayaks have a carrying capacity of 260lb. Canoes vary, but we recommend no more than 2 adults and 2 small kids per canoe. 

Do you offer shorter tubing trips?

The time on the tube ranges from as little as 3h to as much as 6h depending on river conditions (most are 4-5h).  It’s a “crazy lazy” river trip. The Cacapon River has limited access points. We only use one drop off. We do offer paddles if you want to speed up your trip, as well as rope if somebody is willing to pull the group through slow areas. River is walkable and swimmable 70% of the way, you can always jump out of the tube and walk along or swim along.

Can I use own equipment for your trip?

We offer shuttle service for kayaks/tubes/canoes for $25 per person. Please arrange over the phone 703.229.1139 or email info@cacaponriveroutfitters.com

You can combine own equipment (shuttle) with ours.

Do you offer WiFi?

There is free Wi-Fi next to Stoney Creek Country Store. stoney-guest is the SSID. No password.

Cancellation policy?

Please cancel 72h in advance for a full refund. After that we can reschedule or issue store credit if you call before your trip.

Can you camp and participate in outfitter activities?

Campers that stay at Stoney Creek Campground (WV) get a discount messaged to them. We encourage you to check out our group camping!
